A unique Alvis: the only “parallel-door” Drophead Coupé, bodied by Bertelli.
The story
Alvis Speed 25 SB Drophead Bertelli
Featured in The Autocar of 9 April 1937, this Speed Twenty-Five SB is the only Alvis fitted with a “parallel-door” drophead coupé body: a George Wenham patent in which the door moves outward from the car then slides back along the rear wing — elegant, spectacular and safe in traffic.
Bodied by E. Bertelli of Farnham — the only Bertelli example on this chassis — it was delivered to Arthur Bickerstaffe Woods, a Liverpool shipping heir turned actor and then documentary film director. It retains its original chassis, engine and coachwork.
Fully restored by Red Triangle of Kenilworth, the foremost specialists of the marque, to its original configuration, it is today a Classic Car Club of America “Full Classic” — a rolling museum piece, ideal for concours d’élégance and exceptional events.
